Well, here we are again, friends - it's another November, and that means we're coming up on another December, in which I attempt to write 24 drabbles of 100 words exactly, posted daily between December 1 and December 24.

(And as luck would have it - I posted the 2014 request post on the 19th of last year, too.  WEIRD.  I'd also hit 50K for the month, so that's slightly less heartening.)

I should note that I have failed in this endeavor just about every year since I've started.  Not because I couldn't post (although that was the case the year we brought Andrew home in 2009), but because it seems to be physically impossible for me to actually keep a story at 100 words exactly.  I keep overshooting.  Often by several hundred, if not thousand, words.  Sometimes prompts turn into art projects.  YOU NEVER KNOW WITH ME.

ANYWAY.  Despite having Charlie in the house, and my currently failing state at Nano this year (hopefully not permanent, just feels that way at the moment), I'm going to try again this year.

The Rules:

1. One prompt per person. You may specify fandom and pairing or leave it open to interpretation.  Additional short prompts are welcome and highly encouraged (and by that, I mean just a few words, don't go assigning character traits or plot lines or anything, because I will ignore them).  Keep in mind, I totally reserve the right to ignore any part of your prompt - there's always at least one person who wants Johnlock and gets Johncroft or similar.

...Yeah, that's about it.  If you're on Tumblr, leave your username and I'll tag you when I post.  Prompts are open until I close 'em (hopefully shortly after I hit 24).

Aaaaaaand...... GO.

Title: The Holly Bears a Prickle
Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Characters: Mummy & Daddy Holmes, Mycroft, Sherlock
Warnings: None
Rating: PG

Summary: Christmas morning brings all sorts of joy.  Family isn’t always one of them.

A/N: The last of the Advent Calendar Drabbles.  Today’s fic is a bit of a treat: the final three prompts all shoved together, because they actually worked really well with each other.  The prompts were The Holly and the Ivy (which I’ve quoted for the title), Christmas musings through the eyes of Daddy Holmes on living with three geniuses, and an unfortunate cheese platter.  They were left (in order) by [livejournal.com profile] cousin_sue, [livejournal.com profile] shadowturquoise, and [livejournal.com profile] tiltedsyllogism.

I listened to about half a dozen versions of The Holly and the Ivy, all sung by boys choirs, before I landed on a couple that do not resemble dirges.  (To me, anyway; I’m sorry if you’re a fan of the song.)  The Mormon Tabernacle Choir does a fairly cheerful version, but if you want something really fun, try the Torero Band Tijuana Christmas version, you won’t regret it.

Merry Christmas!

Title: Crossover
Fandom: Sherlock/HP/DW
Characters: Donna Noble, Mycroft Holmes, various Weasleys
Warning: Weird.  So, so weird.
Rating: G

Summary: Donna has been investigating the odd while looking for the Doctor, so of course she notices the announcement in the paper.

A/N: The twenty-fourth installment of the Advent Calendar Drabbles.  This fic is titled with the prompt, which was given to me anonymously.  My husband had the idea of putting Sherlock Holmes, Hermione Granger, and the Doctor on Final Jeopardy (and even came up with a really awesome answer for it) but alas, I wrote this instead.

Title: Home for Christmas
Fandom: Sherlock BBC (Mise)
Relationship/Characters: John/Sherlock, Harry, Mrs Hudson, Mycroft, etc
Warning: None
Rating: PG13

Summary: It’s Harry’s idea, to go back to the Baker Street house in Upper Brickley for Christmas.

A/N: This is the 23rd installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles.  It’s titled with the prompt, which was given by [livejournal.com profile] hedgehognotter, who gets bonus Mise ‘Verse – mostly because I realized it was the only ‘verse which I hadn’t actually expanded this month.  (And then everyone on Tumblr confirmed they wanted more, which I did sort of know already.)

I don’t normally get my Advent Calendar Drabbles betaed – but I don’t normally write them to be 15K long, either.  Thanks to earlgreytea68 and ladyprydian for taking a look to make sure I stayed on target, and to persiflager for the Brit-pick.  They worked like super-quick bunnies and any remaining mistakes are not their fault.

INCLUDES LINK TO A RECIPE AT THE END.

Fic: Drunk

Dec. 22nd, 2014 07:31 am
azriona: (cat in a box)
Title: Drunk
Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Characters: Lestrade, and spoilers!
Warning: Spoilers!
Rating: R

Summary: Lestrade is drunk, and comes home to bed.  Lucky for him, it isn’t empty.

A/N: The twenty-second installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles.  Today’s fic is titled with the prompt, which is from [livejournal.com profile] kestrel337.  The full prompt was “drunk caroling”, but I sort of forgot that second part.

The exact pairing as well as a brief warning would be spoilers for the ending.  It’s nothing really scary, and I don’t think it’s one of the more common triggers (I promise it’s not non/dub-con or incest or watersports and no one dies in the course of the story), but if you don’t mind be spoiled and desperately want to know please see the End Notes.

Title: Red Ribbons
Fandom: Sherlock BBC and Harry Potter
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes, Hermione Granger
Warning: none
Rating: PG

Summary: Hermione is coming home for Christmas from her first year at Hogwarts.  Sherlock is determined to get her something special.

A/N: The twenty-first installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles – and a continuation of a drabble from last year.  Sometimes I update series when it’s not the holidays, honestly.  Today’s fic is titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] time_converges, who will hopefully not mind the unexpected crossover.

Title: A Spirit of Harmony
Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Characters: Sherlock, John, Mrs Hudson
Warning: None
Rating: PG

Summary: Every year, Sherlock, John, and Mrs Hudson watch the Eurovision contest together.

A/N: The twentieth installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles.  Most fics are titled with the prompt; today’s is not.  The prompt is actually the summary, minus a word or two, which makes for a long title.  Either way, it was given by involuntaryorange.  It should be noted that I’ve never actually seen Eurovision, except in YouTube clips, so I had to do research, primary by watching this video of all the winners ever, which is actually a really neat way of watching the progression of song styles through the years.  (Plus, ABBA’s original costumes are hysterically awful.)

I also want to note that this fic ended up being 221 words exactly on the first try, which never happens to me.  Ever.  And therefore I’m not editing a word of it.

Title: Silver Bells
Fandom: Sherlock BBC, mostly
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson
Warning: None
Rating: PG

Summary: Sherlock is wearing tiny silver bells.  No particular reason.  I swear.

A/N: The nineteenth installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles.   Most prompts are titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] earlgreytea68, who gave me the most awesome silver platter ever.  The goal of this fic is to make her laugh for five minutes straight.  If she does, I win.

Title: After the Scar
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Petunia Durlsey, Dudley Dursley, Harry Potter
Warnings: None
Rating: G

Summary: Petunia has a role, and no idea how to play it.

A/N: The eighteenth installment of the Advent Calendar Drabbles.  Most of the fics are titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from aut0 (aka my dad) who requested Harry sometime between acquisition of his scar and his 11th birthday.  A confession: the drabble is actually reworked from one of my HP WIPs, which was meant to be a sequel to Like Magic, which I co-wrote with talloakslady.  But we never finished the sequel, and so its awesomeness will continue to be one of those things the world only wishes it knew about.  Anyway, the only thing you need to know from that story is that when she was a little girl, Petunia’s favorite hiding place was in the cupboard under the stairs.

Title: Holiday Decorations
Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Characters: John, Sherlock, Molly

Summary: Someone’s decorated the morgue for Christmas.

A/N: The seventeenth installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles.  Today’s 221B is titled with the prompt, which was given by cnsltngsmrtars, who also requested Johnlock.  You’re welcome to read that in if you like, but it’s not intended.

Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Relationship: Mycroft/Greg
Warnings: None
Rating: PG13

Summary: Greg catches Mycroft in a compromising position.

Title: The Fan

Characters: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, A Fan
Warning: None
Rating: R for suggestiveness

Summary: Sherlock Holmes meets a fan.

A/N: The fifteenth installment of the Advent Calendar Drabbles, and another 221b.  Most fics are titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] engelkate (kassna on Tumblr) who requested fans and cosplay.  I am sure this is exactly what she meant.

Title: Why He Wasn’t There
Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Relationship: Mycroft/Greg
Warning: None
Rating: PG

Summary: A man and a woman exchange vows – and someone watches from the side.

A/N: The fourteenth installment of the Advent Calendar Drabbles.  All fics are titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] wendymr, who requested that Greg go to Mycroft to find out why he wasn’t at the wedding.  She also requested “Mystrade, but not established relationship”.  Well.  I sort of got that part right.  (It occurred to me after that I could have gone in a TOTALLY different [Johncroft] direction with this, which would have been hysterical, but ah well, opportunities lost.)

The song being played is Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy.  And yes, I was listening on repeat as I wrote.  The story may or may not match up to the music, depending on how quickly you read.

Title: Minerva McGonagall’s Spring Holiday
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Minerva McGonagall
Warning: None
Rating: G

Summary: There’s a tale they don’t tell about Minerva McGonagall.  Mostly because they’re afraid of what she’ll do to them.

A/N: The thirteenth installment of the Advent Calendar Drabbles.  All fics are titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] lordofthechaos, who sometimes masquerades as my husband and comes up with weird plot twists for things, specifically the last line in this fic.  Fear him.

Title: Snowstorm Switcharoo
Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Characters: Sherlock, John
Warning: See summary
Rating: PG

Summary: There is snow in London.  Unfortunately, there is also an orchestra, or at least some background music.  You may never sing Jingle Bells properly again.  I’m sorry.

A/N: The twelfth installment of the Advent Calendar Drabbles.  Today’s fic is titled with a shortened version of the prompt, given by auntiesuze, who requested a switch-up of the typical snowed-in scenario.  Basically, she did not want John and Sherlock snowed in together.  So I wrote something else instead.  I’m sorry.  I’m so sorry.

The tune is the classic Jingle Bells.  If you’d like to sing along to music, here’s a handy-dandy link for you.

Title: The Chimney
Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Characters: Sherlock, Mycroft
Warning: None
Rating: PG

Summary: Five-year-old Sherlock Holmes hasn’t figure out deductions yet.  He does, however, know how to run an experiment.

A/N: This is the eleventh installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] drinkingcocoa, who requested five-year-old Sherlock.

It should be noted that this story was written concurrently with yesterday’s story, though you don’t need to have read yesterday’s story to enjoy it.  If you did, though – here’s the story of Sherlock and the chimney.

Title: Comfort and Joy
Fandom: Sherlock BBC (Power Play ‘Verse)
Relationship/Characters: Mycroft/Lestrade, OMCs
Warning: None
Rating: PG

Summary: Greg Lestrade’s youngest nephew has questions.  Apparently, only Mycroft has the answers.

A/N: The tenth installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] velma68, who requested “comfort and joy with Mystrade”, and only got the pairing, as this fic has nothing to do with comfort and/or joy.  (Well, maybe it is, from a certain point of view.)

Title: How to Bake
Fandom: Sherlock BBC
Relationships: Sherlock/John/Mary
Warnings: OT3
Rating: R

Summary: How Mary learned to bake bread.  (Or, a lesson in euphemisms.)

A/N: This is the ninth installment of the 2014 Advent Calendar Drabbles, and the first that deserves higher than a PG rating.  Yay, me!  Drabbles are usually titled with the prompt, but not today.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] sadbhyl, who requested Johnlockary with BAMF, unapologetic, and cooking.  I did the first, modified the last, and ignored the middle two.

Credit where credit is due: I could not have written this without the line “Discovery takes experimentation” from Agents of Shield Episode 2:08, which I was watching while I was brainstorming this story.  And it occurred to me that the line can also be applied to new relationships, which let’s face it, is a way more cheerful way of utilizing it.
