My Words, this time )

I wrote three reviews last night and three this morning, and I have seven more in my little To Read file, so I'm taking a break and doing a meme. HA.

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] time_converges:

My words, from the aforementioned Time_converges: Reviews, Doctor Who, crack, fanfiction, recipes )

Okay, here's a thought. First person to guess the fandom I wrote in when I was thirteen gets a fic/drabble/something of their choice. I think I've mentioned it before, so we'll see about your memories.

And no, it's not Harry Potter, and it's not Doctor Who.

Edited to add: Four guesses....NO WINNERS. Hee, this is fun!

Edited to add again: LOTS of guesses now .... STILL NO WINNER. People, you are thinking FAR too contemporary. Trust me, it WASN'T contemporary, but believe me, you'll know it.

Well, I now have something like ten fics pulled aside for me to read and review this weekend. And I'm not coming back until half of them are done.

We'll see how long that lasts.

In other news, the current NetFlix watching is House of Saddam. It would be more interesting, I think, if the characters were not so two-dimensional. Thoughts on the first episode )

Speaking of...Bill and I still haven't seen the last two episodes. We'll probably see at least one of the episodes online this weekend - if not both.

But, in the meantime......reviews. Lovely weekend, all.

I've been reading and writing reviews for [livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews for most of the evening; I have discovered that my ability to produce multiple decent reviews in a row has decreased by quite a bit. In Round One, I could pull out six reviews in two nights. Now I'm lucky if I get three. I wonder if my brain isn't still fic-fried? I hope not, because there's an awful lot of fic to review.

We will probably start posting the reviews this coming Wednesday though, for those keeping track. I'd rather start a bit earlier, but the first to go up is the recap, and we kind of need complete nominee lists before I can post those, so hence the lag. Which means I need a nice back-log of reviewed fics, to give us all a bit of breathing space.

Breathing space = good = not-fried-reviewers. I find this to be a very good equation, personally.

Vampires provide a good distraction, though - I finished New Moon. It was way funny. I don't think it was meant to be funny. Or maybe I'm just that tired.

Why does my new icon make me giggle uncontrollably?

wow.

I just posted what is the last review post. I feel....it's kind of odd. Almost like a sense of loss, really.

I also feel the great loomingness of March, in which there are no lists to be drawn up, no claims to be tracked, no links to be checked.

Any fic I read, is going to be because I find it on my own. Which I haven't done in...well...months. Not since November. I find this kind of sad, really. I've missed out on the fun of clicking a random link on T&C (OMG! T&C! I can pay attention to it now!) and finding some fantastic gem of a fic.

There's just a couple of wrap-up posts on Round Two, but essentially...that's it. We're done. We're...done.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around that.

But also - I have, sitting on my notebook before me, a list of plans for Round Three. And we need to discuss icons, because I'd like different icons for the review posts (because we really need a Classic Who icon for the Classic Who reviews, and a Torchwood one, and an SJA one). So that means tracking down screenshots of other characters holding books or reading things. And there's some fic I want to make sure gets nominated in the next round, and I have to make up my list so I don't forget.

And - oh jeez - the new reviewers! I've got to get those set up, so that we can all go through the applications!

Right, did I say I was done? Yeah, not so much. Eek!

Who knew running a comm took so much work?

Or could be half as much fun, wank and all?

Edited to add: This? Is too funny. I guess Daleks can't swim, after all!

Sorry to spam, but lest I forget...

[livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews is looking for new reviewers!

As we near the end of Round Two of the CoT Awards, we’re looking to expand our staff. We’d like to have as wide a range of reviewers as we can possibly get - particularly those who know Torchwood, Classic Who, and Sarah Jane Adventures. If you’re interested in joining us, we’d love to have you apply!

Please check out our invitation. We look forward to hearing from you!

Feel free to spread the word around!
azriona: (DW - CoT Reviews)
At the risk of spamming everyone's flist...wait a sec. I have spammed all of your flists this morning. Mea culpa. I apologize profusely. Here's the LAST SPAMMAGE, I promise.

*ahem*

Also, it is snowing outside, great big chunks of snow. It's not sticking yet. And I have to go grocery shopping at some point. Grr.

Right, so...

[livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews is just happily swimming along, we're figuring out how to go about recruiting new reviewers (which will open 22 February, with luck), and I'm blissfully working my way through more reviews.

And I've hit the point where I've sort of run down on the fics I know I'd like to read, so I'm going to ask for suggestions from the flist. Please click on the link below, happy flisters, and if you see a fic on the list that you think I'd enjoy, please do let me know. Self-pimping is always allowed.

What's Left? 80 fics or so, actually... )

1. The next batch of stories at [livejournal.com profile] writerinatardis are up. There are seven, one of them is mine. I broke my track record of only having negative votes in the last round; we'll see what happens this week. Go vote. Hop, now.

2. I keep waking up absurdly early with horrible images of people having left random messages at [livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews. Not dreams, exactly, but that certainty you have when you wake up having had a dream about something real - telling off the boss at work, or crashing the car into a tree, or the like - and you're absolutely positive it happened. This morning, I was convinced that there were half a dozen people pleading with me to stop posting reviews. I sorta kinda half know where it might have come from, but it's still disconcerting.

3. Lost last night was...eh. Mostly, proving half the theories that Bill and I had going right. Which isn't any fun, and I still want to know where Rose and Bernard are.

4. Mostly, this week is centered on the fact that I'm not having a particularly good week at work, and really, I wouldn't mind calling in sick for about a week and a half, but complaining about it seems churlish. The idea of a three day weekend this weekend doesn't excite me at all, because I know come Monday evening, I'll be in despair that there's a Tuesday morning that must be had.

Happiness

Happiness is:

1. The first of the Round Two reviews going up at [livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews. At last, it begins! With a recap of the last round's current nominees, but still. New reviews tomorrow! Wheeee!

2. Smart Wool socks on cold wintry days. For lo, they are thick and my toes are warm.

3. Writing a review that references Calvin and Hobbes comic strips. (No, really, I did.)

4. New episode of Lost tonight!

5. Chili Chocolate Fudge chilling in the fridge.

6. Figuring out how to re-write a few more songs for the Doctor Who version of Hair.

7. Warm, purring kitten on my lap.
azriona: (DW - Blue Smiling Nine)
Me: The final list of nominees is almost done, and once it's finalized, I can go and organize who's doing what review and what's left and what gaps we have and THEN maybe I can concentrate on writing more reviews.
Bill: You're not done?
Me: No, I can't concentrate. I'm too stressed out about the administrative side of the review community. I'll be better when the list is finalized.
Bill: How ****ed up is this? Fanfic has gotten to the point that there is online literary criticism of fanfic. And you are running it.
Me: And it's fun!
Bill: Some professor at the University of Maryland is gonna write a paper on you, I hope you know.

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Data from Star Trek, easily. "Life forms, life forms....." Oh, how I sobbed during the last movie. Because the WHOLE POINT was that Data, despite being a robot, was an individual, and no other robot could ever take his place, or be the same, and THEN THEY BROUGHT IN ANOTHER DATA-CLONE. Gah.

Oh! [livejournal.com profile] papilio_luna has redone the [livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews layout. It is quite lovely. Go look, and then tell her how fantastically brilliant she is.
azriona: (Chess Players)
Okay, serious poll time, people. I'm writing a review for [livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews, and I'm curious if others feel the same as I do about the importance of lyrics to music. Think music heard in your day-to-day life, like on the radio or CD or something.

(Why, yes, I do put far too much time and thought into these reviews. I've already written at least one review that's longer than the fic. Yeah, it's sad.)

(No, I'm not writing the review for DW, Broadway Style. This is for something else entirely.)

Help?

Er....so, [livejournal.com profile] papilo_luna made me this gorgeous banner for [livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews (which, by the way, is all caught up and I should be done with the spammage).

Except...I kind of can't figure out how to earth to use it.

Anyone have a clue how to put a banner on a journal? I think I'm using an S2 layout, but I'm not sure.....

Edited to add: Nevermind, I've given P-L temp access so she can do it, since she is far wiser than I am in the ways of LJ coding. But if you look at [livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews profile page, you'll see the very pretty banner she made for me. 'Tis gorgeous.

Two things, quickly, before I dive into reading for the morning.

CoT Reviews, plus an invitation for artists )

In other, non-DW related news....sushi last night was yummy. Even Bill had one of the crunchy tuna pieces, which is odd, because he doesn't like fish that much. (He had the wimpy, veggie sushi platter, but it had squash sushi on it, which everyone agreed was pretty darn good.) Mmmm, sushi.

Also....

Bill sings Spider-Pig in Russian.

You have no idea how much lingerie I'm going to have to wear for that, people. You better like it.

Happiness, Day Three, Part Two

Someone just paid for an entire year of paid-time for [livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews. I can't tell you how this made me feel in terms of OMGHAPPY because I don't really think there are words.

Except it means the following:

1. OMG. Someone actually believes in this community, and that someone isn't me! (I mean, I do, but I don't really count, do I?)

2. OMG. A whole year of paid time means I have a year of reviewing in which to live up to. Holy shit.

3. OMG. That means I really have to make sure this community works, and as a community. Yikes.

I really, really hope I'm not in over my head. Right. First things first: finish posting the Round One Reviews. Set up for Round Two. Post Round Two. Try Not To Panic

First things first:

THE HAPPINESS MEME, Day Two
Day One

So, happy. My dentist appointment went well, and I've got the all-clear for another six months. Hurrah! I stopped off by Hudson Trail Outfitters on the way home and bought some long underwear to wear under my jeans on Tuesday, since I am completely insane and plan on going down to the Mall with the rest of humanity, and it's supposed to be 28F. Listen, it's my chance to take pictures of crazy people and not have them attack me, I'm taking it. Plus, I'm walkable to a Metro station, and I don't have to transfer lines. It'd be criminal not to go!

But really, what's making me squeal in glee is the response to Sixty Things, posted this morning. Now, reviews always make me happy. But the reviews for this are making me ecstatic. This is partially because it's my first attempt at List!Fic, which I've always admired but never actually tried. (It's a hard thing to do well, List!Fic, and [livejournal.com profile] loveslashangst is the master, and I adore her stuff.)

But it's also partially because the fic got more hate than love when it was posted to [livejournal.com profile] writerinatardis in round three - and on top of the previous two rounds, which had nothing but hate (although granted, not that much), my ego has been somewhat bruised.

I had, until yesterday, every intention of not posting any of the three. I'm still thinking not to post the first two. Well, maybe "Pockets". I like Pockets. And yes, I will post my entry to this week's challenge, because I like it, too. But really - the only reason I posted Sixty Things is because [livejournal.com profile] aibhinn asked for it. (And yes, that's part of the unexplained happy from yesterday.)

One other thing has made me happy today, but I haven't seen the outcome to it yet, and my motto remains Don't believe anything until you have tickets in hand, so it'll keep for tomorrow. Plus, plenty of happy to go around today already. :)

*

Lastly: I have created [livejournal.com profile] cot_reviews. It's seriously boring at the moment. And yes, it's open for joining, but I'm going to spend the weekend working on it - and that includes uploading the last round of reviews, which will involve possibly spamming your flists, so I totally understand if you'd rather wait a few days. I'll post again when I'm done.

That said - if anyone has suggestions on how to make it pretty/navigatable/something, let me know. This is sort of new territory for me, and I'd like to make it good.
