I finally got my hands on a copy of Cursed Child this weekend... and proceeded to read it in about 6 hours. On the whole, I enjoyed reading it, mostly because I enjoyed figuring out how I'd do the staging and the magical bits as I read them. (So many quick scene changes! So many quick costume changes! Characters exiting on one side of the stage and then immediately reappearing on the other via Polyjuice Potion!) I completely admit that despite my issues with the story, I really want to see how this play is staged, and if it's anywhere close to what I envisioned.

(Probably not.)

As for the story itself... yeah, after one reading, I'm left with more questions than answers, and I'm tempted to read it again to see if I can't figure them out. But I also have no time, so it'll have to wait a bit.

So many questions, so little time (spoilers under the cut) )

I probably have other questions and things, but that's all I can think of at the moment, and I want to try to get some editing in before Charlie wakes up from his nap. And I'm curious who else has read the play now and what they think. (Or seen it, and what they think.) It's entirely possible I missed something as I read - there were points where I could read only one or two lines at a time before a child interupted me - but hey, I think for reading it super fast, it wasn't bad.

(Also, I was perfectly aware that I was reading a script, and not a story, and perhaps a lot of my questions are answered through the performance. Lots of nuance in performance, there is.)

Title: Crossover
Fandom: Sherlock/HP/DW
Characters: Donna Noble, Mycroft Holmes, various Weasleys
Warning: Weird.  So, so weird.
Rating: G

Summary: Donna has been investigating the odd while looking for the Doctor, so of course she notices the announcement in the paper.

A/N: The twenty-fourth installment of the Advent Calendar Drabbles.  This fic is titled with the prompt, which was given to me anonymously.  My husband had the idea of putting Sherlock Holmes, Hermione Granger, and the Doctor on Final Jeopardy (and even came up with a really awesome answer for it) but alas, I wrote this instead.

Title: Red Ribbons
Fandom: Sherlock BBC and Harry Potter
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes, Hermione Granger
Warning: none
Rating: PG

Summary: Hermione is coming home for Christmas from her first year at Hogwarts.  Sherlock is determined to get her something special.

A/N: The twenty-first installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles – and a continuation of a drabble from last year.  Sometimes I update series when it’s not the holidays, honestly.  Today’s fic is titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] time_converges, who will hopefully not mind the unexpected crossover.

Title: After the Scar
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Petunia Durlsey, Dudley Dursley, Harry Potter
Warnings: None
Rating: G

Summary: Petunia has a role, and no idea how to play it.

A/N: The eighteenth installment of the Advent Calendar Drabbles.  Most of the fics are titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from aut0 (aka my dad) who requested Harry sometime between acquisition of his scar and his 11th birthday.  A confession: the drabble is actually reworked from one of my HP WIPs, which was meant to be a sequel to Like Magic, which I co-wrote with talloakslady.  But we never finished the sequel, and so its awesomeness will continue to be one of those things the world only wishes it knew about.  Anyway, the only thing you need to know from that story is that when she was a little girl, Petunia’s favorite hiding place was in the cupboard under the stairs.

Title: Minerva McGonagall’s Spring Holiday
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Minerva McGonagall
Warning: None
Rating: G

Summary: There’s a tale they don’t tell about Minerva McGonagall.  Mostly because they’re afraid of what she’ll do to them.

A/N: The thirteenth installment of the Advent Calendar Drabbles.  All fics are titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] lordofthechaos, who sometimes masquerades as my husband and comes up with weird plot twists for things, specifically the last line in this fic.  Fear him.

Title: Into Ashes
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Harry and the gang
Warning: None
Rating: G

Summary: They build the bonfire high with driftwood so that the flames glow without magic.

A/N: The fourth installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles, and the first actual 100-word drabble.  All fics are titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] pakaboori, who used a line from Andrew Marvell’s to his coy mistress.  I sort of deviated from the original use of the line.

It took me a while to get this one down to 100 words, and still try to retain the tone.  Lindenharp once did something really interesting with a drabble she wrote, showing her process and how she was able to cut down a story to 100 words, and because this one took several attempts to get it down to size, I thought I’d repeat it here.  Please tell me what you think: do you like the 100-word version better (which I've posted both first and last), or the 258-word version, or something in between?

Title: The Cat
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters/Relationships: Hermione/Ron, McGonagall
Warnings: None
Rating: G

Summary: Hermione is the cleverest witch of her age.  That doesn’t mean she can’t make mistakes.

A/N: The third installment of the Advent Calendar Drabbles, and the first from Harry Potter.  All drabbles are titled with the prompt.  Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] lindahoyland, and also included Hermione and Professor McGonagall.  I don’t usually get Advent Calendar Drabbles beta’ed (since they’re really meant to be flash fiction of a sort), but [livejournal.com profile] drinkingcocoa was kind enough to give this a peek, since she’s more familiar with the HP voices than I am these days.

In honor of the fact that today I hit 50K for this year's Nano... I bring to you this year's Advent Calendar Drabble Request Post.

Prompt me a drabble. One to two words, name your fandom/pairing or suffer author's choice. If you're here, you know my main fandoms (Sherlock, Doctor Who, Harry Potter; if there's something you know/think I watch and want me to give it a go, by all means, we can discuss). Keep in mind that I have a habit of taking short prompts and turning them into chapter-length fics, so I don't promise they'll stick at 100 (or 221b) words. Feel free to specify a specific series I've written if you like.

(Incidentally, most of last year's drabbles far exceeded 100 words, and only a few stuck at 221. One was interactive, one was an art project, one helped me break writer's block on Fiddle, and two years ago, the resulting fic was so long it had to be posted on consecutive days.)

(Basically, I never follow directions. This explains a great deal about my 5-year-old, actually.)

If you're on Tumblr, please indicate your name over there so I can tag you when I post the story.

Requests will be taken until all slots are filled; drabbles will be posted daily between Dec 1 and Dec 25.  Only one request per person. As of Thursday noon, there are 8 prompts left.

All gone - more or less.  Thanks!

Title: Promises
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: James/Lily, Sirius
Warning: None
Rating: PG13

Summary: Sirius and Lily have always had an uneasy truce. Trusting doesn’t come easy.

A/N: The twenty-first installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles. Because I am lazy, I’m titling the drabbles with the prompt. Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] pakaboori, whose request really leaned more toward compromises than promises, but this is what sprang to mind.

Title: Socks and Malteasers
Fandom: Sherlock BBC and Harry Potter
Characters: Sherlock Homes, Hermione Granger
Warning: Crossover, Kidlock
Rating: PG

Summary: Sherlock waits for Hermione under the willow tree, her Christmas gift in his pocket. It’s a bit of a double-edged sword.

A/N: The eleventh installment of this year’s Advent Calendar Drabbles. Because I am lazy, I’m titling the drabbles with the prompt. Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] talloakslady, who also specified the characters within. I was doing so well with bright and cheery drabbles, and then the angst came out of nowhere here! I’m so sorry – I’ll try to get back into the cheerful stories tomorrow!

Title: McGonagall’s Christmas
Author: [livejournal.com profile] azriona
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Minerva McGonagall, Hermione Granger
Warnings: None.
Rating: PG

Summary: The first Christmas after the Final Battle, and Hogwarts is still learning how to heal.

A/N: The tenth of the Advent Calendar Drabbles – and an actual drabble this time, too! You can use my Advent Calendar Drabble tag to find the rest.

Because I am lazy, I’m titling the “drabbles” with the prompt I was given. Today’s prompt is from [livejournal.com profile] ninefiend. Not beta’ed or Brit-Picked; all comments and nit-picking welcomed.

Summary: Only slightly scarier than snakes on a plane.

A/N: The sixth of the Advent Calendar Drabbles. I’m still taking prompts, feel free to join in.

Because I am lazy, I’m titling the “drabbles” with the prompt I was given. Today’s prompt is from my husband, who would be a terror to crack!fic if he ever bothered to write half the ideas he has. Not beta’ed or Brit-Picked; all comments and nit-picking welcomed.

Because I am JUST THIS NERDY )

There will be a longer post detailing today's adventures (Morning: Aquarium, this afternoon: Momma goes on a Fandom Binge), but for now I have to start dinner and entertain the toddler. But I had to post the photos, I had a big grin on my face all afternoon and couldn't wait to boast share.

In light of certain recent events (don't worry, everyone's fine, though the car's a bit dinged up), I have for some reason been really aching to write something.

The problem being that...well...I haven't written anything in a while. I'm out of practice. The last thing I wrote was Left Behind over a year ago, and I have to admit, I'm sort of scared to follow it, because apparently, people really liked it.

I need help. I know I don't ask for prompts very often, but that's mostly because I rarely get them. So....

Prompt me. Anything - a word, a quote, a picture, a scene, a bit of dialog, a pairing, no matter how ridiculous (because let's face it, anyone who writes Broadway musicals out of Voldemort's Death Eater meetings can handle ridiculous). Be as specific or general as you wish.

Or, if you don't know what to prompt me,

Suggest where I can be prompted. Websites, LJ comms, forums, prompt generators you like, whatever, wherever.

I've written HP, DW, and dabbled in a few others, and I have to admit I've got a hankering to try my hand at writing Sherlock, now that I've watched both seasons, but I haven't a clue where to begin. EGT, either you're the only person out there writing Sherlockfic, or I'm just crap at finding it. I can't believe the first, so I'm sort of leaning toward the latter. For the prompting, everything goes.

The weird dreams continue, though thankfully I forget most of them shortly after waking. This morning, though, I had a very vivid memory of last night's dream, in which I learned that I was actually the daughter of J.K. Rowling (conveniently ignoring the fact that she's only eleven years older than I am). The media, having gotten wind of this information, was making much of it, particularly the fact that JKR's long-lost daughter actually wrote Harry Potter fanfic *gasp horror shock*.

(Sorry, Mom; I've got a silly, traitorous brain.)

But seriously, can you imagine the field day news reporters would have with that story? Imagine the hit counts! Or do you think the long-lost daughter of JKR would be required/compelled to remove her fanfic from the internet?

I woke up highly amused at my brain. Then again, I also woke up with a toddler in bed next to me. I'm thinking he had a nightmare or something around 3.30, although it might have also been because he was messing around with his nightlight and now it doesn't work. Considering I spent two dollars on the nightlights, I'm not overly upset, but I am annoying because it was a pain trying to find this one, and I think it was still too bright for him because every time he wanted to go to sleep, he covered his head with the blanket.

azriona: (We'll be there)
I finally got around to signing up for Pottermore (mostly because the last time I checked a few months ago, it appeared to still be in beta mode). I haven't had a chance to really poke around yet, but I'm still kind of annoyed that I can't be azriona. I mean, seriously, I'm azriona everywhere else and how does giving me a choice of five combinations of random words and numbers make me any more protected than otherwise, particularly since the first thing we all do is post our newly created names on LJ or Facebook for the world to see?

Anyway, I'm StonePhoenix3782; friend me if you like or put your names here so I can attempt to friend you and figure out how it works. It wasn't the best combination of words, but it sort of kind of ties in with azriona so maybe I'll actually remember it. And it's not quite as Sparklypoo-ish as I'd expected (though Stone Phoenix does sound like a hunky, dusky-eyed guy with chiseled abs and a thousand-watt smile who wins the hearts of both Hermione and Ginny, but when he realizes that Harry and Ron are about to fight to the death for their girls, he graciously and nobly steps aside, fading away into the mist like the gentleman he is).

Hmm. Maybe Stone is a bit more Sparklypoo-ish than I thought.

Edited to add: So far, I don't much like it, but I think I might be missing something. I'm on the start of Chapter Three in SS right now. For some reason the site is incredibly slow to load every page, so I end up waiting about a minute or two for every new page. And then when the page loads, I just get a scene. Nothing to click on (and trust me, I've tried to find something, I've even clicked on things that look like they ought to be clickable, and nothing happens), nothing to read, nothing new pops up that's the least bit interesting.

Except for the background info on characters, and so far, the best of these is the background on how Petunia and Vernon met and married. (I do have a thing for Petunia, after all.)

I'm sure I'm missing something - I see comments about collecting things, but I can't for the life of me figure out what or how. And I'm getting immensely tired of waiting for useless pages to load so that I can finally get my wand, and be sorted, and maybe actually start doing something.

What concerns me is this: if I'm unable to collect these things that ought (need?) to be collected -- am I even going to be able to do all the rest? The background information on Vernon and Petunia is interesting, but I'm not sure it's worth the hour or so I spent getting there.

Assistance on what I ought to be looking for, from those who've been there, would be appreciated. My concern isn't just that I'm not finding it, it's that my download speed is so slow, that I'm never going to have it to find, which really defies the point of the game, I think.

I have been amazingly productive in terms of seeing new things this week. On Wednesday, with Andrew's fever abated, and the grandparents still around, Bill and I went to see Wicked at the Kennedy Center. On Thursday, after three days of ten-minute intervals, I finally finished the third episode of True Blood. On Friday, Noel and I went to see Harry Potter 7.2. So before I launch into another round of Torchwood and True Blood, I figure I need to review what I've seen so far.

Most important, of course, is Harry Potter. (Well, most important to me. Others may have other opinions.)

Pre-movie preparations; probably not much interest to anyone but me in 20 years when I'm reminiscing about all of this. )

Previews included one for the new Planet of the Apes. Why is it every time I see that preview, I start humming "Oh but wait, I was wrong. It was Earth all along. Oh they've finally made a monkey....." DARN YOU, MATT GROENING.

Right, so on to the show and my thoughts. First up: Snape )

Next up: the Final Battle and Voldy )

A thought about Ron )

One last word (i.e., the fandom reference you didn't see coming. Or maybe you did.) )
